‘John’ Lowe – Fouroaks stud
The Society was saddened to hear of the passing during the Christmas period of Mr Horace “John” Lowe of the Fouroaks Stud, Chorley, Lancashire.
Together with wife Dinah and family, especially daughter Wendy, the Fouroaks Stud grew into a force to be reckoned with following the purchases of both Gwyn Rhosyn Frenin and Springbourne Caress who together formed a golden partnership that many breeders can only hope for. The 2002 Royal Welsh champion Fouroaks Reanne and the dual Horse of the Year Show finalist Fouroaks Coco Chanel were two such mares that epitomised the type of good moving pony John favoured.
A modest man of generally few words John let the ponies do his talking and despite his long illness was able to appreciate the success of Fouroaks Skyfall winning the yearling colt class at this summer’s Royal Welsh with Fouroaks Crescendo gaining a credible 6th place in the same class.
His legacy will be the continuation of the stud through the next generation of committed enthusiasts presenting Fouroaks ponies with the same passion and dedication. Our thoughts are with the family at this sad time.
