Clipping of Equines

Following some issues around the clipping of equines during the 2023 season, the Society Council have made changes to the clipping rule to prevent any ambiguity for the forthcoming year. As the J&S handbook for 2024 went to print in January 2024, this new rule was included within it aimed at the shows later in 2024 to prevent the problems occurring again.
Members must be reminded of the rule that youngstock must not be body clipped except within the confines of the diagram.
There will be those whose animals may have been clipped before the new ruling in January 2024 that should by now be growing out. New clipping since the change to the ruling should only extend to the confines of the new rule and common sense must be applied where the clip is not a fresh clip and likely to have been done before the announcement was made. Below is a diagram to confirm the acceptable areas to clip for the 2024 season.
Please note that these rules apply to Pure Bred ponies only and not to Welsh Part Breds which may be shown in other classes i.e. Part Bred Arab/Riding Pony breeding/Hunter pony breeding.
Members should be reminded that queries should be directed to the WPCS in the first instance rather than making requests of trustees and staff on assorted social media threads.
