Geoff Williams – Danygaer

The Society is sad to report the passing of Geoff Williams from Gelligaer, who enjoyed a lifelong interest in the Welsh Cob.

Geoff from the Danygaer Stud, Gelligaer in South Wales, passed away on Wednesday 24th June.  He had the remarkable experience of working for the late Llewellyn Richards at the renowned Criban stud when he left school which sparked his interest in the breed. He was not a big breeder – number wise; but took great pleasure from breeding a foal from time to time, joining the Society in 1993. He took great pride in gaining a 6th place rosette at the Royal Welsh show in the nineties, which said much about the measure of the man.

He was well known throughout South Wales as a nutrition adviser for BOCM and Spillers calling regularly on livestock producers. In the late 50’ and in the 60s he played rugby for Newport, Ebbw Vale and Pontypridd. In recent years he was a member of the Bargoed Male Voice Choir who represented both Glamorgan and Monmouthshire at the Sunday night service at the Royal Welsh show. The choir also sang at the Aberaeron Welsh Pony and Cob Festival on several occasions.

A larger than life character he will be missed by a wide circle of friends at home and overseas. The Society extend their condolences to his wife Carol.
