Rosemary Philipson-Stow

The Society and family wish to inform the members of the sad death of Rosemary Philipson-Stow, Pendock Stud, who lost her long battle with Dementia on Saturday 9th December at the age of 89.
Rosemary joined the Society as a life member in 1955 having inherited her love of Welsh ponies from her mother and father who started the stud with the mare Peggy, a granddaughter of Dyoll Starlight. She was soon joined by two fillies from The Revel and they formed the base of the world renowned stud with ponies exported all over the globe. Amongst these have been the prolific sires, the famous Pendock Legend, Buttonhole, Mirage, Peregrine (section B) and the current star Pendock Paige Boy, whose showing career has been highly decorated, collecting bronze, silver and gold medals, winning at Lampeter, Glanusk and the Royal Welsh (Male Champion in 2019). Her Section B ponies were also sought after, with Pendock Patience winning the Working Hunter Pony class at Badminton Horse Trials in 1964.
The WPCS meant a great deal to Rosemary. She was a Trustee between 1980 and 2007, and Chair of the Council between 2004-2006, with stoic dedication and determination and was greatly respected both for her knowledge of the Society and breed and fairness in dealing with people. She had the honour of being the Society President in 1994. She was a highly respected judge, officiating across all sections including under saddle classes, and as such her judging skills were sought worldwide – New Zealand to America and all over Europe, reaching the accolade of judging the Royal Welsh Section B’s in 1980, Section A’s in 1989 and Welsh Cobs in 1995.
Throughout her life, she has met many people here at home and across the world through her love and interest in Welsh Ponies and Cobs. Knowing that throughout her life, Rosemary worked diligently as a Member, Trustee, President, and Judge in promoting and preserving the Welsh Breeds is something that her family will hold dear and are immensely proud of her for.
As a friend from Australia has just written, a very sad ending to a wonderful and full life. Rosemary will be much missed by all her friends, and her nephews Robert and Edward and niece Georgina. There will be a private family funeral with a public memorial service to be announced in January.
