ADAM PATTERSON – PENYBRENIN

Adam Patterson

The Society was deeply saddened to hear of Adam Patterson’s passing after a long illness, bravely fought, at the age of 45.

Growing up in Lampeter, he moved to Builth Wells and the Lion Hotel sixteen years ago, and ran it for over ten years, before returning to nursing, his first career, five years ago. His ‘Lion welcome’ was always warm, and he greeted so many members across the threshold there over the years, enjoying their company, especially when there was an event on at the Showground.

Adam’s true passion in life was his love for the Welsh Cob. Joining the Society in 1991 at the age of 14, he registered the Penybrenin prefix and bred some 50 Welsh Cobs during his lifetime. His early purchases included Nescliffe and Llangybi lines. Pedigrees were of great interest to Adam, and he took great pride in being able to reel off a Cob’s lineage back many generations from memory.

When the news of his passing was announced the universal response was that he had the qualities of being a true friend to so many people and was always willing to help others.  Adam was also a hard-working committee member for the WPCS Performance Event and the Glanusk Welsh Stallion show.

A funeral service to celebrate Adam’s life will be held at St Mary’s Church, Builth Wells on Friday 23 December at 11.30.am, to be followed by a gathering at Builth Wells Rugby Football Club. Adam’s father has requested the wearing of bright colours but no jeans.

The Society wishes to extend its sympathy to Phil, Adam’s father, his family, and friends.
