The Fox is on Fire!

With HOYS upon us, we catch up with some of the Welsh breed qualifiers for the prestigious Price In hand Horse or Pony of the Year Championship to be judged this coming Friday at the NEC in Birmingham. We have already featured three animals from the six representatives Llanarth Harmony, Skellorn Bronze Soldier and Glynwyn Annie Power. Another to qualify is the Chestnut 3 yr old Welsh Part-bred gelding bred by E Mansfield -Parnell; Rotherwood Firefox.
Owned by Jane Laffey, Firefox picked up his ticket to the semi-final under David Tatlow at Blakesley show. At Stoneleigh’s semi-final he took the HOYS ticket under Bridget Millington.
This gelding is regally bred by Highmead To Be or Not to be – tracing back to the Welsh Part bred mare Chirk Catmint whose descendants have been so successful in this competition over the years. On the damline Firefox is out of Rotherwood Buttons and Bows and goes back to Rotherwood Peepshow, herself a true pinup of the ridden pony showring. Interestingly Firefox carries three crosses of Chirk Caradoc the Welsh section B stallion used so successfully over small thoroughbred and riding pony mares.

Shown by Abigail Staff at Blakesley, Shane Rogers has since guided him to glory winning the National Welsh Part bred Championship at The Welsh National Championship show under judge Mark Tamplin along the way.
This will be Shane’s first time as a producer at HOYS, although he has shown in the arena for Alan Charlesworth in the past.
A delighted Shane is looking forward to the experience and shared “Our favourite thing about him is how useful he is and you can really see him doing a job in the future whether that be showing, dressage or as an eventer, ‘Hugo’ lives a very normal life with as much time in the field as he can, something that Jane feels very strongly about all of her animals’

Fly the flag for the Welsh Part beds Shane! and we wish you and all the other qualifiers the very best of luck on Friday. Pob lwc!
