Notice for Breeders of Welsh Part-Bred Equines

The Society regrettably wishes to announce, that at this present time, it is unable to process Welsh Part-Bred Registrations or Overstamps.

This important decision has been taken by Council following recent correspondence received from DEFRA & Welsh Government, setting out that Societies with studbooks that register Part-Bred animals into the main section of their studbook with corresponding pedigrees that run alongside pure bred animals, should formally suspend Part-Bred registrations until such time that revised guidance and legal instruction has been issued, as a result of uncovering discrepancies in the processing of pure bred regulations.

This action has not been taken lightly by the Society and has not been easy. However, the action to pause registration of Part-Bred Welsh equines has been forced on us and reluctantly taken in order that the Society can comply with the DEFRA notice and so as to protect our Passport Issuing Status.

Although this is a temporary measure affecting many other breed societies, it will affect breeders and owners of Welsh Part-Bred equines, but for now it is necessary to protect the Society’s long-standing history of the Welsh Part-Bred register which predates these regulations.

The WPCS, along with other U.K. studbooks that are affected, have been liaising and working with a number of bodies, as well as Government representatives, to work through and resolve the issues highlighted by DEFRA.

We would like to assure you that the Society is working hard and campaigning to maintain Welsh Part-Bred registrations in the same or similar format, with pedigrees included.
