Mr Michael Johnston - Fontmell

Sadly, it has only recently come to our attention that Mike Johnston – Past President of the WPCS 2006 – and Welsh B enthusiast (Fontmell Stud) passed away on 16th November 2023 aged 81 years.

Mike was a solicitor and Coroner and gave advice to the WPCS when needed.

He founded his Fontmell Stud in 1962 and moved to Farrington in 1973. He bred many good and successful ponies. He believed they should be of correct type, with substance and soundness and able to take on any job. One such was Fontmell Rasputin who went to the Whitaker family as a jumping pony for the children.

Mike was a popular Panel judge for many years. He also bred champion Portland sheep and goats which he milked for the house. Dogs and parrots were also kept.

His wife, Vicky predeceased him, and he leaves two sons and seven grandchildren.
