Elwyn Davies - Eppynt Stud

Sadly, the WPCS has been informed of the passing of Elwyn Davies, Eppynt, peacefully on the 5th July aged 94. Elwyn would have been one of the longest standing members of the WPCS, becoming a life member in 1950. Elwyn was President of the Society in 2000; a role which gave him great enjoyment and many trips away visiting different associations and shows. Elwyn was awarded Honorary Life Membership in 1997 and Honorary Vice Presidentship in 2006 by the Society.

Elwyn was the third generation at Eppynt, carrying on from his father, Willie Davies and grandfather J. L. Davies. He was immensely proud of his grandsons Kevin and Chris for their showing achievements and was over the moon to be present at Glanusk to see his Great Grandson Aled (the sixth generation of the Eppynt Stud) winning with a yearling filly the past two years.

Elwyn has judged the Section A’s in all the major shows in the country, judging the RWAS in1975 and judging the Tom & Sprightly in the RWAS in 2018.

Elwyn himself showed successfully on a local basis during the seventies, having great success with the mares Eppynt Vannessa, Eppynt Softie and Eppynt Vanila. However, his greatest successes came in latter years in the Royal Welsh winning :

1996 - Eppynt Victoria - Section A Overall Champion

1998 - Eppynt Skyline – Section A Overall Champion

2006 - Eppynt Silver Locket and Eppynt Skyline – Section A Overall Champion, Champion Male and Female, the only stud since Coed Coch to win male and female with two home bred in same year

2016 – Eppynt Silver Diamond in your Eye - Youngstock Champion

The Funeral service will be held on Saturday 20th July at 2pm at Siloh CM Chapel, Merthyr Cynog
