Wendy Dobinson – Brierdene Stud
Wendy Dobinson – Brierdene Stud.
It is sad to share news of Wendy Dobinson’s passing. A member for fifty-two years she was passionate about her Welsh Mountain Ponies at her North Tyneside home.
Her prefix Brierdene graced the showrings at the highest level – Brierdene Llewelyn having the honour or being the first ever Mountain and Moorland lead rein winner and Mini Champion at HOYS. Brierdene Berwynfa, after winning the Royal Welsh then spent seasons at Bengad, Maxwelltown and Cefnfedw before returning home to stud.
Wendy was a Panel Judge until her retirement, and a past president of the Scottish and Northern Association. Her stud stallion Fuschia Quince topped the sire ratings and his stock had a great following. She did much to promote Welsh Mountain ponies in Sweden,Norway and Denmark where many studs today carry Brierdene bloodlines. Many breeders in those countries will have been entertained, advised and inspired by Wendy’s words and her sense of humour.
The Society extends its sympathies to her family and friends, and it is good to know that the Brierdene ponies will continue through her son Andrew’s vision and commitment to the breed.
