Official Sale Update

Information about the WPCS Official Sales.

The WPCS and McCartneys wish to clarify the following details about the upcoming Official Sale. Please read the information carefully and visit McCartneys website or Facebook page for updates.

Gates Open

The gates will be open from 12.00 noon until 9.00pm on Friday, and 7.00am until 8.00pm on Saturday and Sunday there will be 24 hour Security in attendance and a Horse Foreman.

The showground will be locked at all other times.

Admission Charges

£10 per person, per day (Sat &Sun) under 16’s free

Passes for Vendors

Each vendor will receive 2 free passes per entry – up to a maximum of 10 passes.

Passes for buyers or sale-goers.

These will include a barcode which must be shown to the Security staff at the point of entry to the sale.

Parking

All horse boxes and trailers, caravans and vendors will be directed to the official horse box area designated for the event and will enter through the Horse Hill entrance

General Public vehicles will be parked off the roundabout as directed near to Builth Wells town. Day parking for vendors and non-vendors is FREE. All entrants should have their barcode passes available to view on arrival.

Blue Badge parking will enter from the Livestock entrance and be parked in the designated blue badge area close to the South Glamorgan Hall.

Catering

The Welsh Pony and Cob Society pavilion will be open serving breakfasts, lunches and suppers as well as a selection of rolls and sandwiches. There is also a licensed bar in the Pavilion for members.

Opening hours:

Friday from 4.00pm until 11.pm

Saturday 7.00am until 11.pm

Sunday 7.00am until early evening.

Severn Valley Catering will also be in attendance around the sale ring from 12.00 noon on Friday and 7.30am on Saturday morning until the end of the sale on Sunday

Please note only alcohol purchased from the bar or the onsite caterers can be consumed in the sale building. Alcohol brought in from outside is in breach of the licensing laws and will be confiscated by Security.

SALE ENTRIES

All entries will be stabled in the permanent stables.

Straw is provided by the sponsor Elgan Evans Hay Merchants. There will be one bale of straw per stable per sale day. Please ensure that you leave your box clean for the following days’ entry. All lots must be cleared from the Sales site before 8.00pm on Sunday evening.

Upset price

All animals Section A, B, C, D and Welsh Part breds will be subject to an upset price of £120.This means that all animals that do not reach a bid of £120 will not be sold.

Sale lots can be viewed in the stable area or in the cattle ring en-route to the South Glamorgan Hall

A Heras fencing horsewalk sponsored by Hywi and Leebron Studs will channel sale entries to and from the cattle ring and the collecting ring to the sale.

The cattle ring will be available for parading of stock.

Ridden or driven entries are requested to be respectful that many of the sale entries will be youngstock. Entries should not be lunged in the Cattle ring.

The collecting ring will be to the South side of the Glamorgan Hall. The entrance and exit for sale lots will be here. An area for taking photographs will be available in the exit ring. Photographers are reminded that they enter this area at their own risk.

Saturday’s sale will commence at 11.00am and see Welsh Mountain ponies section A Welsh Ponies Section B, and Welsh Part breds’ sold. They will be sold as a mixed catalogue. There will not be separate Sections for A’s followed by B’s and Part-breds to avoid the unnecessary changeover between sections and keep the sale momentum flowing.

Sunday’s sale will commence at 10.00am and will see Welsh Ponies of Cob type Section C and Welsh Cobs Section D sold as a mixed catalogue.

Gelding Show

There will be a Gelding show held in the cattle ring on both days of the Sale.All geldings entered in the sale have automatic free entry to the show.

Saturday 10.00am Classes for Section A, B and Part -breds and a Championship.

Sunday 9.00am Classes for Section C and Section D and a Championship.

 

Catalogues

The catalogue will be available in two formats

  1. As a Downloadable pdf document priced at £6 – this is to ensure that overseas buyers receive them before they travel. This will be available online early next week.
  2. As a traditional printed catalogue £12 – this will be available from McCarnteys from the middle of next week. These will also be available on the sale day (while stocks last) or by post from McCartney’s Brecon Office. These will be mailed out by first class post

The Sale Rings

The Sale will take place in the South Glamorgan Hall and will be an all-seated event with stands and floor level seating.

Masks must be worn at all times inside the South Glamorgan Hall according to the current Covid regulation for events.

Streaming  

The sale will be streamed online on both sale days with a fixed single camera. This will be available to view free to air.

Bidding

Buyers must register with McCartneys

It is possible to bid in person at the sale or bid via the online platform. It is also possible to ask McCartneys to bid on your behalf if you cannot be present. Please contact the auctioneers for more information.

 

 

The Society and Auctioneers hope to welcome a large number of sale-goers to this first Official sale and trust that they will comply with all requests by staff and respect the Covid guidance in place to make the Sale a success for the Welsh breed.

This is a new venture for McCartneys, and the WPCS expects attendees will embrace the changes and challenges faced to ensure the continuation of the Official breed sale
