Kate Deacon – JESTERS and HALNAKER

Kate Deacon –

The Society regrettably reports the sudden passing of Kate Deacon at the young age of 54. Married to Peter and mother to Billy; Kate shared her passion for ponies with the family. Joining the Welsh Pony and Cob Society in 1993, she was encouraged to breed Section D’s with her mother Pat Berry – registering the stock with the Jesters prefix. She was a keen rider in her youth, competing in working hunter pony classes with her Welsh Cob Tywysog William.

Her pride and joy was Jesters Poppy who was 6th at the Royal Welsh Show in a huge Cob yearling filly class under judge Daff Davies. Kate went on to compete successfully with Poppy under saddle.
A move of sections followed when she joined forces with Peter; breeding Sections A and C under the Halnaker prefix. There are very few breeders who can claim to have bred a HOYS Champion but Kate was one of those and rightly proud of the achievements of Halnaker Martin. It was therefore very apt that he won the M and M working pony section as befitting the chosen sport of his breeder. More recently the success of Halnaker Malaci brought her great joy as did the arrival of a lovely colt foal by Cameron Af Olandia; whom she had hoped to show next year.

Kate will be sadly missed. The Society and its members sympathies are extended to Peter and family.
