The Society's past Young Ambassadors, Young Ambassador and Young Ambassador Elect all sit on the Society's Young People's Committee (YPC), along with anyone under the age of 30 who is interested in developing ideas and events to engage young members of the Society.  Unfortunatley, the committee has been fairly inactive in 2012 but it is hoped that this will improve very shortly.

2011 Young People's Committee Report

Firstly may we as a committee congratulate the young members of the WPCS for all their efforts, dedication and success, in whatever form through the past year.  A point I am sure which will be expanded upon in the 2011 Journal.

Once again the committee have actively raised funds this year via a "Virtual Race Night" held at the National Welsh Championships, Malvern, raising in excess of £1,000.  These funds along with those previously raised are to be used in a number of ways to benefit and provide opportunities to young members.  An idea we have continued to develop this year being a "Study Travel Scholarship".

The scholarship will be loosely based around the Nuffield and Meat Promotion Wales scholarships, which already have proved beneficial and are highly regarded in their relevant areas.  Applicants will put forward a written discussion on an appointed equestrian topic of study, with an independent panel selecting the winning applicant.  The successful individual will be provided with the opportunity to travel to an overseas association and expand their knowledge on their study area.  A pre-defined itinerary will be adhered to at all times on the study travel.  Upon their return, the candidate will be expected to put forward a written report on their findings to be published by the WPCS and will be expected to travel to Area Associations, educational events etc. to give a presentation on the findings of their study.

The committee would like to hear of any other ideas or views members may have. Your contributions are always welcome.

In conclusion, I would like to thank all committee members both past and present, Council, staff and members of the WPCS who have helped me through my term as Chairman of the Young People's Committee and I wish the committee contintued success.

Adrian Bowen,
Chairman Young People's Committee 2011
