9. IN HAND MEDALS
9.1 To be affiliated to the Welsh Pony & Cob Society, shows must hold Public Liability and Employers Liability.
9.2 The Society’s Gold medal is awarded only at the Royal Welsh Agricultural Society’s Annual Show. The Gold medal will only be awarded to the champion. If the animal wins the Youngstock & Overall only one medal will be awarded.
9.3 The Society’s Bronze and Silver medals are awarded for In-Hand classes at annual shows of Societies affiliated to the Welsh Pony & Cob Society who have, prior to their show, paid the appropriate affiliation fee. The Affiliation Fee includes the cost of a display case for each medal and engraving.
9.4 Where a Silver medal is awarded, that show cannot also award a Bronze Medal.
9.5 An affiliated show Society, to be eligible for the award of the Society’s Bronze medal, must have classification in their schedule providing at least four classes for any one Section of the Stud Book for stallions, mares, geldings and youngstock registered in the Welsh Pony & Cob Society Stud Book or appendices relating to F.S.2 animals. Medals will only be awarded to the Champion or Reserve Champion. Where there is full Classification, the medals cannot be restricted to Youngstock Champion/Reserve Champion but must be offered to Section Champion/Reserve. (The Royal Welsh Show being an exception to this Rule).
9.6 Show Schedules
9.6.1 Copies of Show Schedules must be submitted to the Society for approval prior to being sent for final printing. The Society’s Office will endeavour to check and approve a draft schedule within 2 weeks of receipt. Please allow a reasonable amount of time for approval.
9.6.2 Where a Silver Medal is offered for award, classification must be provided for at least six Classes in any one Section of the Stud Book.
9.7 Catalogues
9.7.1 No medals will be awarded at shows unless a printed catalogue is on sale at the show containing the entries in each class and giving the name and number of the exhibits as registered or entered in the Welsh Pony & Cob Society’s Stud Book or Appendices. A final copy of the catalogue must be lodged with the Society prior to the Show. Email copies are accepted.
9.7.2 Medals will only be awarded to an animal listed in the catalogue supplied before the show.
9.7.3 Copies of marked catalogues and signed medal cards must be submitted to the Welsh Pony & Cob Society’s offices. Marked catalogues must be lodged at the Society’s offices within 14 days of the date of the show duly marked to show the placings from 1st – 4th as well as Champion and Reserve Champion.
9.7.4 All marked Catalogues and completed medal cards must be posted to the Society’s Office by Registered or Recorded Delivery.
9.8 Results
9.8.1 The results of the Medal Awards are compiled by the Office at the end of each Season and printed in the annual Journal. The Medals are thereafter engraved by the Society and posted directly to the exhibitors. (Due to the fact that the medal can be offered to the Champion or Reserve Champion it is vitally important that the results are received within the time period as this does have a knock on effect for shows held later in the year.)
9.8.2 Shows are responsible for the accuracy of results. It is the responsibility of individual shows to ensure that the information sent to the Society is accurate and free from errors.
9.8.3 It is the responsibility of the Show to ensure that incorrectly awarded medals are returned to the Society. A replacement will only be issued once the original has been returned to the Society. A Show submitting incorrect results will be liable for all the costs of re-issue.
9.8.4 In the case of an animal not registered at the time of entry at the show at which a medal is competed for, application for registration or entry in the Appendix must be made within one month of the date of the show, otherwise the medal will not awarded. Geldings, originally registered as stallions and still being shown under their stallion numbers, must be correctly re-entered in the Gelding Section or the medal will be withheld.
9.8.5 No animal shall be awarded more than one Gold, Silver or Bronze medal in any one season. Medals awarded at the Royal Welsh Winter Fair, and for the Welsh Mountain Pony Stallion Premium Champion at Glanusk are exempt from this rule
9.8.6 Medals will only be awarded to animals whose owners are members of the Welsh Pony & Cob Society who have paid their subscriptions for the current year or are life members or who have submitted their name for membership and paid one annual subscription or Life membership composition.
9.8.7 Owners/Lessees who are not current members will be allowed 14 days from the date of the Show to join the Society.
9.8.8 Owners/Lessees are asked to ensure that the correct ownership of the animal is recorded with 14 days from the date of the Show.
9.8.9 Medals will only be awarded when the classes are Judged by a Judge who is on the Panel of Judges of the Welsh Pony & Cob Society.
9.8.10 Where a Gold or Silver Medal is awarded, the officiating Judge, who is on the Panel of Judges of the Welsh Pony & Cob Society must be in possession of an asterisk (*).
9.8.11 All stallions exhibited in stallion classes must be in possession of a Welsh Pony & Cob Society Licence of Correctness (or acknowledged alternative).
9.8.12 Colts may be licensed from 1st January of their 2nd year for showing purposes and all colts presented for stallion premiums must be licensed.
9.8.13 Show Secretaries are asked to ensure that the certificate/s, which will be supplied on receipt of the completed medal affiliation form and appropriate fee, is/are correctly signed by the officiating Judge/s to confirm the Champion and Reserve Champion in the appropriate Sections where medals are awarded.
9.8.14 Classification in the schedules of the Show Societies affiliated to the Welsh Pony & Cob Society should in all cases be in keeping with the Welsh Pony & Cob Society’s rules in relation to height limits.
9.8.15 Shows awarding Silver Medals will be assessed periodically by the Judging and Showing Standing Committee, the assessment based on the standard of past entries, numbers forward and geographical spread. Failure to respond to Society requests for information could result in the withdrawal of the Silver Medal status.
9.8.16 The Society reserves the right to withdraw the award of medals from a show.
10. BRONZE ROSETTES
10.1 To be affiliated to the Welsh Pony & Cob Society, Shows must hold Public Liability and Employers Liability.
10.2 An affiliated Show Society, to be eligible for the award of the Society’s Bronze Rosette, must have classification in their Schedule providing at least four classes for any one Section of the Stud Book for stallions, mares and geldings and Youngstock registered in the Welsh Pony and Cob Society Stud Book for appendices relating to F.S.2 animals. Bronze Rosettes are awarded to the Champion or the highest placed exhibit with a current membership card. Where there is full Classification, the Bronze Rosettes cannot be restricted to Youngstock Champion but must be offered to the Section Champion.
10.3 The Society offers Bronze rosettes free of charge for shows awarding them for the first time.
10.4 Copies of Show Schedules must be submitted to the Society for approval prior to being sent for final printing.
10.5 Catalogues
10.5.1 No Bronze Rosettes will be awarded at Shows unless a printed catalogue is on sale at the Show containing the entries in each class and giving the name and number of the exhibits as registered or entered in the Welsh Pony & Cob Society’s Stud Book or Appendices. A final copy of the catalogue must be lodged with the Society prior to the Show. E-mail copes are accepted.
10.5.2. Bronze Rosettes must only be awarded to an animal listed in the catalogue supplied before the Show.
10.5.3. Copies for marked catalogues must be submitted to the Welsh Pony & Cob Society’s offices. Marked catalogues must be lodged with the Society’s offices within 14 days of the date of the Show, showing the placings 1st – 4th as well as Champion and Reserve Champion.
10.6. Results
10.6.1. All marked catalogues and completed Bronze Rosette results cards must be posted to the Society’s Office by Registered or Recorded Delivery within 14 days.
10.6.2. Bronze Rosettes will be supplied to Show Secretaries prior to the Show and will be awarded on the day to the Section Champion.
10.6.3. Shows are responsible for the accuracy of results. It is the responsibility of individual Shows to ensure that the information sent to the Society is accurate and free from errors.
10.6.4. It is the responsibility of the Show to ensure that incorrectly awarded Bronze Rosettes are recalled from the winners and returned to the Society.
10.6.5. In the case of an animal not registered at the time of entry at the Show at which a Bronze Rosette is competed for, application for registration or entry in the Appendix must be made within one month of the date of the Show, otherwise the Bronze Rosette will be recalled.
10.6.6. There is no limit to the amount of Bronze Rosettes that an animal may win in any Season.
10.6.7. Bronze Rosettes will only be awarded to animals whose owners are members of the Welsh Pony and Cob Society who have paid their subscriptions for the current year or are Life Members or who have submitted their name for membership and paid one annual subscription of Life Membership composition.
10.6.8. The owner/lessee’s membership card should be produced in the Show ring on the day of the Show as proof of current membership. No production of a membership card means that no Bronze Rosette is to be presented on the day of the Show. Additional membership cards are available from the Office at a cost of £1.00 per card, per annum.
10.6.9. All stallions exhibited in stallion classes must be in possession of a Welsh Pony & Cob Society Licence of correctness (or an acknowledged alternative).

10.6.12. Classification in the schedules of the Shows affiliated to the Welsh Pony & Cob Society should in all cases be in keeping with the Welsh Pony & Cob Society’s rules in relation to height limits.
10.6.13 The Society reserves the right to withdraw the award of Bronze Rosettes from a show.
11. PERFORMANCE MEDALS
11.1. The award of a Performance Medal is classed as Affiliation to the Society and Welsh Pony & Cob Society rules must be adhered to.
11.2. The aim of the scheme is to promote the use of all Welsh Ponies and Cobs and Welsh Part-Breds in Performance Disciplines and to bring awareness to the general public of their versatility. Medals can be awarded to non-members.
11.3. All animals must be registered or entered in their appropriate Section of the Welsh Stud Book, including Welsh Part-Bred ponies and horses. Proof of registration to be made on entry forms in the case of Welsh Classes. In Open Classes proof must be made available to Show/Event Secretaries. The onus is on the Show to validate eligibility to compete, e.g. name and registration number of animal competing/photocopy of Passport.
11.4. All result cards will be checked by the Society to ascertain that the animals awarded Performance Medals were correctly registered.
11.5. Judges for Welsh Pony & Cob Society Ridden Classes must be selected from the Ridden Panel of Judges. This applies to Welsh only Sections.
11.6. All Judges listed on the Ridden Panel are eligible to Judge Sections A, B, C and D and Part Bred animals under saddle.
11.7. At the discretion of or by nomination to the Society and in recognition of outstanding achievement, e.g. Open Classes in Eventing, Dressage, Showjumping or any other equine disciplines.
11.8. Medals can be awarded to the class winner in Novice or Open (A,B,C,D or Welsh Part-Bred), in any discipline, to be available in the schedule.
11.9. Medals can be awarded in Mountain and Moorland Classes. The medal to be awarded to the highest placed Welsh, but not lower than 4th place overall.
11.10. Medals can be awarded in Open competition to the highest placed Welsh but not lower than 4th place overall.
11.11. Lead Rein, First Ridden and Welsh Part Bred Ponies, maximum height of 121.9 cms (12.0 h.h. equivalent), and First Ridden, maximum height of 128 cms (12.2 h.h. equivalent), will be restricted to Section A & B.
11.12. There is no limit to the number of medals awarded to any one animal in any one season.
11.13. The Royal Welsh Show, HOYS M & M Ridden Qualifiers, Horse of the Year Final and the Mountain and Moorland Championship at Olympia are exempt from the above rules.
11.14. The result sheet must be returned to the Society’s head office.
12. WELSH PONY & COB GELDING INCENTIVE SCHEMES
12.1. Millcroft Stud Gelding Rosettes
12.1.1. The award is to encourage the showing of Junior Geldings In-Hand, therefore expanding the market for the colt foal and enabling the creation of a network of potential performance prospects to represent the best Native breed in the World at the highest level.
12.1.2. The Gelding Champion and Reserve Champion rosettes are generously sponsored by the Millcroft Stud and are obtained free of charge from the Society’s head office.
12.1.3. To be awarded to the Overall Gelding Champion and Reserve from a specific Gelding Championship after all the In-Hand classes are complete.
12.1.4. To be competed for by the highest placed geldings from each appropriate class within Sections A, B, C, & D. Welsh Part-Breds are not eligible to compete for the rosettes.
12.2. National High Point Junior Gelding of the Year Scheme
12.2.1. Open to all Pure-Bred geldings 3 years old and under being shown In-Hand.
12.2.2. Owners of junior geldings do not need to be members of the WPCS in order to compete, and should apply for a free competition card from the Society’s head office.
12.2.3. The competition runs from 1st March to 30th September annually, with the results card being returned to the Society’s office no later than 14th October.
12.2.4. Results must be signed by the Judge of each class or the show secretary in order to verify the results.
12.2.5. Results from fifteen shows are allowed, with a maximum of three classes per show which must be either pure-bred Welsh In-Hand classes or mixed Mountain & Moorland In-Hand classes.
12.2.6. Points are allocated as follows:

Extra points can be added for the following –
Winning a Special Highest placed Gelding in the class rosette - add 5 points
Receiving a Millcroft Gelding Champion rosette - add 10 points
Receiving a Millcroft Gelding Reserve Champion rosette - add 6 points
The Royal Welsh Show, The Scottish Horse Show and the National Welsh & Welsh Part-Bred Championships will command double points throughout.
