Judging and Showing 

Showing and judging Welsh Ponies and Cobs, be it ridden, driven or in-hand, can be great fun.  The Society provides a wealth of information to both exhibitors and judges, which can be found on the left hand side of this page.

Clipping of Foals and Youngstock

Council wishes to draw to members attention the ruling that foals and youngstock should not be clipped. Judges will be asked to take strong action against anyone who contravenes this ruling as from 1st January 2014.

Affiliated Shows

Shows can affilate to the Society to award rosettes and medals (bronze, silver and gold) subject to meeting the necessary criteria in terms of classes and entry numbers etc.  Further information can be obtained by contacting the Society office.

Judge's Asterisk

The Judging and Showing committee will be dealing with the award of asterisks (*) to those who are members of the Judging Panel for five or more years to enable them to officiate at affiliated Silver and Gold medal shows in line with the current rules. 

In order that you can be considered for an asterisk you must complete an application form and list details of Shows at which you have officiated since being appointed on the Panel of Judges and ensure that the following criteria is met in order to be eligible for the award of an asterisk a judge must have officiated in Welsh Classes, in at least 10 shows during the past five years within the Section they are applying for, 5 of which must be Welsh only classes affiliated to this Society (in line with Show rules affiliated refers to In Hand Medal shows).

Judging & Showing Handbook

Following an update to its Complaints and Comments Policy, the Welsh Pony and Cob Society wishes to confirm to members, and in particular those using the 2016 version of the Judging & Showing Handbook, that in order to read the latest policy members should refer to the website. 


For those using the 2016 version of the Judging & Showing Handbook changes have been made in the Societies complaints procedure which has resulted in part of the wording as printed, within rules 23.3 and 23.7, no longer being relevant.
