Welsh Show the Way in Sweden

Welsh Show the Way in Sweden

At the recent three year old testing for all breeds held on Saturday 10th May at Falkenberg in southwest Sweden, it was the Welsh representatives that raised the bar to new heights leaving all the other breeds in their wake.

The three year old Welsh Part Bred filly Joelsbo Divine, whose lineage goes back to Coed Coch Barwn, Coed Coch Targed and Solway Master Bronze, amassed a staggering 55 points (out of a possible 60) something unheard of in the competition’ history. Her score of 55 included three maximum ‘tens’ for type, trot and canter. In addition she also had a score of 55 for her potential for dressage and 55 for loose jumping.

She is owned and bred by one of Sweden’s great Welsh enthusiasts Ingela Johansson who does so much to promote the Welsh breeds in Sweden. A delighted Ingela commented on how happy and proud she was of the filly’s outstanding achievement. Standing 146 cm, Divine is by Ingela’s homebred stallion Joelsbo Coulthard and out of the Swedish Warmblood mare Dorisse who was 23 years of age when she foaled Divine and still remains hale and hearty in retirement.

Though still unbroken she will go forward to the final in Vetlanda later in the year before being broken next winter to pursue a career hopefully in both dressage and jumping.

Also in the ‘distinction’ category – a distinction being a score of 47 or more - was the Welsh Cob colt, Derwen Dusk with a score of 48. Dusk started his winning ways at the Ceredigion Foal Show where he was reserve champion to Illar Alexis which went on to be top priced foal at the 2011 Brightwells Royal Welsh Cob Sales. Dusk was later exported to the Stuteri Family and has had gold’ grading’ since arriving at Agarden Stud in south west Sweden.
