Tredegar Bronze Medal Rosette Show 2015

Tredegar Bronze Medal Rosette Show 2015

The misty start at the new Tredegar Bronze Medal Rosette Show held on Sunday 24th May 2015 did not deter the large volume of competitors and members of the public that attended. The old Tredegar Show was due to fold, local breeders Roger Davies of the Hywi Stud and Justin and Karl Walters of the Tyrllawn Stud decided they did not want to see part of Tredegar’s heritage disappear and started a new show under the name of Tredegar Bronze Medal Rosette Show. With generous sponsorship from Studs far and wide as well as local businesses the show turned into a success and hopes to continue for many years.

The Section A’s were judged by Mr Dennis Price of the Afan Stud which saw 50 entered and a good number forward as well as good quality throughout the classes. His Section A champion was the 5yr old barren mare Carno Phoebe, she was a premium yearling filly in 2011 - 2nd at Glanusk 2011 and 2nd at Lampeter 2012 owned by the Williams family of Merthyr Tydfil and shown by Steve Jones of the Cairngorm Stud. In reserve was the 3yr old filly winner Ruperra Class Act by Dyfed Prophet owned and shown by Barbara Green this filly continued her winning ways from last year where she won a bronze and a silver medal.

The Section B’s were judged by Mrs T. Hook of Kemysfawr Stud her champion came from the barren mare class Kenwoods Penny Royale owned by M. Yorath and G. Garrett of Monmouthshire. In reserve was the palomino filly Peter de Rade’ Zonneweide Royal Empress both quality ponies. Coincidently Peter de Rade used to show Kenwoods Penny Royale and won the Royal Welsh Winter Fair with her in 2009.

The Section C’s were judged by Miss H. Williams of the Seiont Stud her C champion was the flamboyant stallion Glanvyrnwy Gerrard owned by Paul Davies of Pontardawe and expertly shown by Chris Bevan of the Gwendraeth Stud. In reserve was Roger Davies’ 2 year old filly Hywi Super Model by Hywi Tango shown by Gareth Lapping.

Helen Williams also judged the Section D’s with an impressive 72 entries and strong classes forward.  The Section D champion was the impressive moving filly Llwynhywel Lady Camilla having already won at Lampeter Stallion Show at the beginning of the year. The filly is owned by the Llwynhywel Stud and shown and produced by Jack Bowerman of Ebbw Vale. The filly was aptly named after meeting Camilla the Duchess of Cornwall at the Royal Welsh Show after winning the filly foal class. In reserve stood the barren mare winner Jonathon Batt’s Rosinic Lady Daniella by Thorneyside The Govenor.

Although low numbers forward in the ridden the champion was the striking 7 year old Section D stallion Fronarth Grand Slam by Fronarth Welsh Lion owned and bred by the Fronarth Stud and ridden by Annah Chester, in reserve stood Meg Williams of Merthyr Tydfil with Scrafton Hubble who had been busy all day competing in several classes. The M&M section also judged by Tracy Hook saw the Section D roan gelding Brenin Y Gwryd champion owned by Miss K. Launchbury. The young handler classes proved popular with Rhys Freeman winning the 12 years and under and Rebecca Lewis winning the 13-18 years. The sun finally shone through for the overall Supremes. With the 3 judges battling it out, they chose the Section B filly Zonneweide Royal Empress owned and shown by Peter de Rade as supreme youngstock with the Section D filly Llwynhywel Lady Camilla in reserve. Overall Supreme was the Section C stallion Glanvyrnwy Gerrard that impressed the judges giving an impressive show and flagging till the end and reserve went to the Section A Carno Phoebe.
