Welsh Cob enthusiasts come out in force to support Courtys Last Stand

Terry Court, the official auctioneer to the Welsh Pony and Cob Society for the last 61 years, has in his time sold in excess of 25,000 Welsh cobs, to around 30 countries in the world and fortunately has never missed a sale.

This long and distinguished career will sadly come to an end on the weekend of Brightwells largest Cob sale of the year, which runs over 3 days from the 21st to 23rd October 2016.

As a final farewell Terry asked some of the most notable Welsh Cob studs, who had been regular supporters over those many years, to send something special for sale. These will be offered in a section called “Courty’s Last Stand”, which will take place on the Sunday 23rd October 2016 at approx. 1pm.

Terry Court says he is delighted with the response and has never offered in his career 30 lots of such fantastic quality and breeding and hopes that perspective buyers will appreciate this amazing opportunity.

During the weekend over 550 lots will be offered at the auction and experts believe that this could be the finest selection catalogued in the 53-year history of the sale.

The Autumn Cob Sale is an event which is firmly in the calendar of the Welsh Pony and Cob community and draws people from across the globe. Held at the Royal Welsh Showground at Builth Wells, for many years the sale has benefited the local economy, as upwards of 6000 people flock to the area for the weekend. No other auction in the world attracts so many people.

For many years Brightwells, through Terry Court’s leadership, have been main ring sponsors at the Royal Welsh Show, in the hope that this would promote the popularity of the Welsh Pony & Cob and recently have sponsored the overall Welsh Cob Championship on the Wednesday afternoon, where the Prince of Wales Cup is presented.

The Autumn Cob Sale will follow on from a very successful 63rd Fayre Oaks Welsh Pony auction, which Terry is still recovering from emotionally as it was his last Pony Sale.

“Being made President of the Welsh Pony & Cob Society in 2011 was one of the greatest accolades bestowed on me. I will miss you all and the events terribly and I hope I will go out with a BANG”
Terry Court.

It promises to be a fitting climax to an outstanding career. A brilliant auctioneer but more over, Terry Court is a great character and the equestrian world is much the richer for his enormous contribution over six decades. He will be missed, he is Simply the Best.
