Social Media 23-11-18

It is with regret that we have to make this statement.

Social Media

We have lost a very valued trustee due to unfounded allegations on social media against Council.

Our Staff has also faced derogatory remarks against them and have felt the pressure of the social media onslaught by ex-trustees, ex-members of staff and members.

We have lost a Company secretary and in her resignation letter, she has clearly stated that her reasons for leaving included the findings of a Grievance Panel which upheld a complaint against a trustee and that another trustee through their solicitor made unfounded allegations and she commented that this attack on her was just six weeks into her employment with the Society.

As trustees of this Charitable based Society, we have a fiduciary duty to protect the assets of our Society. If we cause any adverse reasons to endanger this, we lose the indemnity cover we hold with our insurers.

We would also come under scrutiny by the Charity Commission. The Board of trustees work voluntarily and we do our utmost to preserve our Society for all members. We would also make it quite clear that we would have no fear of an investigation by the Charity Commission, or an audit as we have acted in accordance with our rules.

To follow on, from the unfair social media comments (some of them very misleading and untrue) that trustees and staff and Officers of the Society have had to face on WPCS FORUMS/WPCS DISCUSSION - in our view, has been very damaging to the Welsh Pony and Cob Society.

Because of the scale of the berating on social media, we have had no option, but to seek expert opinion, our solicitors have observed some of the postings and they have deemed that there is a potential defamation angle to some of the comments.

We hold records of social media attack on the Society Council and we intend to review the postings and act in accordance with our Social Media and Internet Policy and other options open to us.

2.4 "You must not post or transmit any material which could damage the name or reputation of The Welsh Pony and Cob Society, its members or former members, or which is derogatory to the character of or prejudicial to the interests of The Welsh Pony and Cob Society.

This Society belongs to us all, we have been elected to be custodians for you and please be assured that we will keep on doing this to the best of our ability.

Yes we have faced difficulties, we don't hide facts from anyone, the staff have worked tirelessly to overcome a very busy period, we have a duty of care to them and we thank them sincerely.
