SEWPCA Spring Show 2016
Sunday March 20th 2016 saw all roads again leading to Crockstead Equestrian Centre, Halland, Sussex for the Spring South Eastern Welsh Pony and Cob Association show. A bright but cold day saw some 118 ponies and cobs present. Mrs Jan Harriss of the Drumaddie stud found her Welsh Section A WPCS bronze medal in hand champion in Lauren Wrens’ stallion, Thistledown Blue Moon with the reserve rosette being awarded to Tina Nicholls’ Windleshaw Saskia winner of the mare or gelding 4 years old and over class in the A’s.

She went on to find her Welsh Section B medal champion from the stallion class to, in Mrs Carolyn Cox’s Eyarth Braveheart, with Mrs Jo Filmer’s yearling Filly standing reserve, Fairy Wren De L’Aurore. Jan then moved on to the judging of the Welsh Part Breds in hand and found her medal champion in Lisa Tuners 4 year old and over Mare class winner. Tishions Lady Garnet with the Fielden’s stud homebred, Fielden Cotton Tail taking the reserve slot.

Mr J Williams of the Cilmery Stud ventured down to our shores to judge the Welsh Section C and D classes, he found his Section C bronze medal champion from the very strong 4 years old and over Mare and Gelding class, in Tina Nicholls Joyton Cadwen with reserve going to the yearling and youngstock champion, Liaura O-Ren Ishii owned by Lisa Barsoum. Moving on his Section D Bronze medal champion was awarded to D.T. Prater’s Mitcheltroy Lively Maid, winner of the 4 years old and over mare class. The reserve went to the 2nd placed mare in this class, Lisa Barsoum’s Drogeda Golden Charm.

Both of these judges then went on to choose their supreme in hand Welsh SEWPCA spring champion and this went to the Section C, Joyton Cadwen with reserve being awarded to the Section B Stallion and medal winner, Eyarth Braveheart. These judges then judged together the traditional trotting classes, after they had eaten their lunch. They found their champion from these two classes in the large class winner and second place, namely champion was awarded to Cavyl Barley owned and ridden by Debbie Baker with reserve going to Jane Gregory riding her own Bookhamlodge Tony Montana.
Ms Kerry Dovey joined us this year to judge our mixed ring of classes outside in the sand school in the morning and found her champion from those classes in Mrs Debbie Barr’s Yarty Roulette with reserve going to Jane Gregory’s Bookhamlodge Tony Montanna.
Her SEWPCA spring show mini champion was found in the Aungier family’s Uphill Freddie Fox, with reserve being Marsh Midas owned by Jan Carmichael and ridden by Hannah Carmichael. She then moved on to the judging of all our ridden NPS spring festival qualifiers and found her champion in Part bred, lead rein winner, Mrs Mandy Burchell-Small’s Seamoor Lady Derby ridden by Poppy Steadman, with reserve going to the winner of the last open class, Manor Duke and Miss Samantha Roberts.
