16th November 2014 saw 161 equines turnout for the South Eastern WPCA foal, youngstock and ridden show, held at Merristwood Equestrian Centre, Guildford, Surrey. The weather was kind to us as well and the follow up banter that has followed has been very gratifying to the committee of the South Eastern Welsh Pony and Cob Association, aka SEWPCA.

Mr Shae Price (the current Welsh Pony and Cob Society Young Ambassador) and Mr Carl Robinson found their supreme welsh foal champion in Mr Peter Hussey’s  D’Abernon The Real Thing, winner of the Welsh Section C, colt or gelding foal class. Reserve slot went to Mr Terry Wall’s Welsh Section A filly foal class winner, Baledon Gloriana.

The same two judges found their Welsh Supreme Youngstock champion in Mark and Maxine Ingham’s 2 year old Welsh Section D colt, Danaway Noodles, who travelled all the way up from Cornwall to support us. Again Mr Terry Wall had to settle for Reserve slot this time with Nynwoods Evangelos, winner of the Welsh Section A yearling class.

We had two outside rings running during the morning for a mixed variety of classes, and Sue Phelan found her champion of her ring in H.M.H. The Queens ‘ Balmoral Gemini shown by Lizzie Braint with reserve slot being awarded to Fielden Minks Legacy. Mr Malcom Fry, who had kindly stood in for Mr Saunders, found his champion in Miss Chloe Chubbs’ veteran class winner, Popsters Loaded Weapon with reserve champion being awarded to Rowfantina Royal Occasion.

These two lovely judges continued all day judging, with Mr Fry finding his ridden champion coming from the novice mixed Mountain and Moorland class, in Pumphill Fandago owned and ridden by Zara Johnson-Evans. The reserve champion came from the open large breeds ridden class, in Ammie Devane riding Wolsley. The large breeds M and M ridden classes saw entrants of 15 and 18 in number, a first for SEWPCA at this winter show.  Mrs Sue Phelan found her mini champion in the Novice Lead Rein Plaited class winner, Gayle Holder’s Rolksgreen Stardust ridden by Cerys Holley. Reserve going to the winner of the Open First Ridden Show Pony/Show Hunter Pony, Mrs J Monks, Forlan Honey Royale ridden by Bronte Monks.  Mrs Phelan than went on to find her final ridden champion of Ring Two in Forlan Honey Royale again with the reserve slot this time being awarded to The ridden coloureds class winner, Classicolours Secrets Justdevine owned and ridden by Willow Tarrant.
