Report of the Council Meeting held on Monday 10 November 2014

A short Council meeting was held on 10 November 2014 before a day in which the Standing Committees met.

After many months of drafts and discussion with the Society’s solicitors to ensure compliance, a group of WPCS Policies and Procedures were ratified by Council at their meeting on 10 November 2014.  Thanks must go to the working party which spent much time and energy on this.

A Procedure for Complaints was ratified and can be viewed here.  An updated General Code of Conduct was ratified and can be viewed here, together with a Code of Conduct for Competitors and Exhibitors which can be viewed here.  A new Code of Conduct for Trustees was ratified by Council and can be viewed here.  A Process to Raise Welfare Complaints was ratified by Council and can be viewed here.

At the AGM held on 5 April 2014 in Cardiff, new Articles of Association were passed by the Membership, this therefore necessitated a new set of Standing Orders which were also passed by Council and can be viewed here

These new procedures and policies will be published in the 2015 Judging & Showing Handbook.  So that all Members can be fully informed, it was decided by Council that a copy of this handbook will be distributed in the Spring mailing to Members.

Arrangements were discussed and will be put in place for the Annual Foal Inspection to be held on Saturday 13 December 2014 at Brecon Market.

Council appointed Trustees to support the DNA project on Hill Ponies which has been in place, partly funded by the Brecon Beacons National Park, and enabled by Aberystwyth University.  Academic institutions are undertaking a number of scientifically based equine projects on Welsh Ponies and Cobs (e.g. research on laminitis) and it is felt that such research could be of interest and benefit to the Society if we could take steps to gather this information.
