NPS Judges' Conference - 22nd February 2015

The conference will take place on Sunday 22nd February 2015 at the Scottish National Equestrian Centre, Oatridge, Ecclesmachen, West Lothian, EH52 6NH.

Venue

The morning session will be held within the Centre’s arena and the afternoon session will be room-based within Oatridge College. The day will start promptly at 9am and will conclude at 4pm. It is an open conference judges, equine/vet students and children (16 years and under) will be admitted free of charge; all others attending will be charged £10 (excluding refreshments). Attendees may wish to make use of the catering faculties which are available at the Centre.

Conference Objectives

The day has been structured to build upon existing knowledge and judging skills. It will provide a theoretical and practical basis for assessment of equine limbs with specific reference to features of excellence, movement and common faults. It will also consider the elements which contribute to the variation between different ponies (both native and plaited) in ridden classes with a view to providing an informed assessment in the show ring. The room-based presentations will be conducted as interactive group discussions covering a) rules and competitions b) marks as a way of assessing classes and c) dealing with show ring dilemmas.

Presenters

Mrs Vicky Rowlands BVM&S Cert EP MRCVS qualified from the Royal Dick Veterinary School in 2003 and gained her MRCVS Certificate in Equine Practice in 2009 when she joined the Ashbrook Practice, Cheshire. Her special interests in lameness, performance problems and equine dentistry.

Mrs Jennie Loriston-Clarke MBE FBHS NPSD is one of Britain's leading equestrians and has previously represented Great Britain in four Olympic Games. She has had a long association with horses having shown successfully some of the best ponies, hacks and hunters and also show-jumped, point-to-pointed and three day evented before specialising in dressage. In 2006 Jennie Loriston-Clarke was the first recipient of the Queen's Award for Services to Equestrianism and award which she particularly treasures.

Mrs Marie-Claire Nimmo is Chairman of the NPS Competitions and Judges Selection Committees

Mr David Blair and Mr Tom Best are senior NPS panel judges.
