Northleach Show 2015 Report and Photographs

27th June 2015

The 51st Northleach Show held on the beautiful setting of Cirencester Park, Gloucestershire was blessed with glorious weather sandwiched between two very wet days. The Show President Lady Jennifer Evans-Bevan judged the Supreme championship which went to India Latter’s ten-year-old ridden Section A stallion Powys (NL) Sprite. He was Section A ridden Pony Of The Year at HOYS 2014 and his four great grand sires are all “Coed Coch”: Rhion, Salsbri, Planed and Trydar. Of the 50 previous Supreme champions at Northleach, ridden Section As have only won it twice, with Brynodyn Sirius in 2010 and Brynodyn Savannah in 2011. The Dutch-bred Sprite is sired by Heniarth Quinnell who was competing in the same class and is being retired this year. At Northleach, Sprite also won his NPS WHP class. Reserve ridden champion was Sarah Whitfield’s five-year-old Section C gelding Winton Rascal who was the NPS M&M Novice Ridden champion.

The WHP champion was Jane Weller’s home-bred five-year-old chestnut gelding Stoatleytwo Red Dragon sired by Llanarth Prince of Wales out of a daughter of Dot, Jane’s Section C mare who was a real “character”.

In-hand supreme was the bay three-year-old Section D filly London Olympic Rose produced by Paul Harper for her owner/breeder Stephanie Edwards of Pulborough, West Sussex and sired by London Stud’s palomino Swannhill Golden Rocket who won at Glanusk and Lampeter in youngstock classes. Olympic Rose’s previous main triumph was at Lampeter this year where she captured the Supreme championship of the Show. Reserve champion was the black yearling colt owned by the Wenham family, Montel Flyer’s Comit sired by the thirty-year-old Thorneyside Flyer out of Bronfoel Telyn, a mare of Pantlleinau breeding. Winner of the stallion class was the Merrick family’s Brynithon The Director, winner of the South Wales stallion class at Lampeter.
