Judges Assessment Panel - Sunday 11th September 2016

Trustees, panel judges, staff and volunteers gathered at Hartpury Arena, near Gloucester on Sunday 11th September to assess the latest batch of candidates wishing to be official panel judges of the Welsh Pony and Cob Society.

With one of the busiest panels for years, over 50 candidates faced rigorous interviewing, a short written test and opportunities to show off their skills and knowledge in the show ring.  With panels for Sections A, B, C, D and Ridden, candidates who were successful at Hartpury will progress into their probation periods.

WPCS Section A Assessors - Emma Edwards, Wyn Jones and Betty French

WPCS Section B Assessors - Harold Zoet, Tom Barron and Robert Hensby

WPCS Ridden Panel Assessors Deliberate - Jo Sheil, Janice Parry, Ann Bigley and Rachel Reading

Following changes in the rules, developed by the Judging and Showing standing committee during 2015, for the 2016 assessment process, all successful candidates were advised that they will be undertaking probationary judging with senior judges. The judges are due to be appointed by Judging and Showing this October. Upon completing their probation the new judges will join the Society panel in 2018.

Chair of the Judging and Showing standing committee Elgan Evans said:  “A massive thank you to all assessors, trustees and staff for making it such a successful day.”

Chair of Council John Kirk was pleased at the high turn-out:  “It was very encouraging to see the confidence and enthusiasm for our Welsh Breed in all of the candidates.”

The Welsh Pony and Cob Society wishes to thank all of the judge assessors, the trustees of the Council, including the members of the Judging and Showing standing committee, the staff, the volunteers who helped put on the event and who provided the ponies and cobs for the ring, and the staff of Hartpury Arena.
