Gwynedd Welsh Pony and Cob Association

After receiving the chairmanship from retiring chairman Mr Huw Roberts. Who would have thought that the year would be dominated by the weather?

First of our three annual shows was the Foal & Yearling show organised by Gwen Jones, Morlena Stud (association photographer) making it a successful show once again. In December we held our Christmas party and all our successful winners were presented with their awards. January saw our usual well attended A.G.M.

In the Spring we held the first of this years shows at Celt-n-Gail Gwalchmai which was extremely well organised by Mr Gareth Hughes; Gwaunerw Stud where young judges were selected, and gave a very good account of themselves. This show was held indoors so weather did not affect us.

The summer medal show was held at the Ynys Mon Showground and was well attended with entries in some classes on the up. This show was organised in the capable hands of Helen Williams, Seiont Stud.

The first of our social evenings of the year was held in the company of Mr Geraint Davies of the Rhyd Ddu Stud. All the members had an enjoyable evening in his company. The second social evening was held in the company of Mr Robert Parker Jones who enlightened us on the correct form of showing, which delighted most of our members. The third social evening in the company of Mrs. Ann Roberts of the Pentaran Stud entertained us with her lecture on A.I. procedures which was a big eye opener, again all the attending members thoroughly enjoyed it.

The highlight of the year was the stud visit trip superbly organised by Mrs Nesta Owen (and husband Bleddyn) Desach Stud where 50 odd of us had a super weekend visiting three studs, the first  on the Saturday was to the Llanarth  Stud with a super welcome by the Bigley family, and with the wealth of cobs and ponies on show. The weather was not all that kind to us. The evening was spent at the Green Dragon Hotel, Hereford.

Sunday morning we all headed off to the Rookery & Wernderris Stud where we had a wonderful warm and friendly welcome by Mrs Crump (unlike the weather)and the wealth of ponies was outstanding. Later that day on the way home we joined Julie Evans, Haighmoor Stud ,again a wonderful welcome and an eyeful of excellent show of cobs (good tractor and trailer journey up to the stud). All the members returned home exhausted but extremely content.

With the encouragement of young people close to my heart ,I had the honour to have two young ladies ,Lowri Watkins and Non Williams produce and edit our Journal for 2012 ,which showed their outstanding quality and dedication that gives good hope for the future of the Welsh Pony and Cobs.

Support of the committee and their dedication to the association has been outstanding with their willingness to help with all aspects of running the association. Gwen Hughes ,secretary has been a tower of strength for me.

May I take this opportunity to thank and wish all members a good and successful 2013.
