Educational Visits

On 17th September, the Welsh Pony and Cob Society Exhibition Unit visited the Holme Lacy Campus of the Herefordshire & Ludlow College.

The visit included a classroom presentation on the history of the Society and the Welsh breeds as well followed by ridden demonstrations from all Sections and Welsh Part Bred, covering a wide range of disciplines.

Section A Welsh Mountain Pony – demonstrating First Ridden 121314 COLNE TULIP ridden by 8 year old Libby Grota and produced by her mum, Hayley.
Section B Welsh Pony - TREFRIW TOMKIN 78418 Owned and ridden by Katie Parry
Section D Welsh Cob CWMENFYS HARRY POTTER 69079
Welsh Part-Bred – demonstrating Dressage W.P-B.R. BLAENLLAIN DOODLEBA 7224

In the past, the ridden displays have demonstrated a range of disciplines, including lead rein, first ridden, show classes, working hunter pony, jumping and dressage, with all four Sections (A, B, C, D) and Part-breds being represented. These practical sessions have proved to be hugely popular and are an excellent way to demonstrate the versatility of our Ponies and Cobs.

With the Society's Exhibition Unit in attendence, staff were on-hand to answer any queries and provide information to students on campus.

Visits so far confirmed for 2013/2014 include the following:

  • 20th November 2013 - Aberystwyth University, Aberystwyth
  • 13th March 2014 - Bridgwater College, Cannington

The Society is grateful to all the people who provide animals for the practical displays and who do such an excellent job of promoting the Welsh breeds. If you would be interested in taking part in practical displays in the future, please contact
