Welsh are stars of the show.
Agribex, held in Brussels is an international trade show for agriculture, livestock breeding, landscaping and green zones. It has grown over recent years into one of the biggest agricultural fairs in Europe and this year attracted more than 185,000 visitors over the six days of the show from 6th to 11th December.
Within the Fair, the Belgian Confederation of the Horse organised a show for all horse breeds in Belgium. In addition, the societies were invited to present a breed display on the Saturday evening. Welsh Belgium accepted the invitation with its usual enthusiasm and enlisted Andre Mesure who has a very successful stud of Section B ponies in Belgium. He brought together 12 children and trained them with ponies from his stud, as well a few ponies borrowed from his friends. Mr Pierre de Meester brought a seasonal theme to the display with his pair of ponies to a beautiful carriage with Father Christmas on board. The well behaved pair of Section B Ponies were Fronsac PTO and Defaelog Elegance. During the week, the Section B mare Polaris Gwennan was in a box on site to promote the Society, "Welsh Belgium". Also included in the display was six year old Lou Wastiaux with his well known Section A, Rowfantina Tabitha.
The Society received the highest praise from not only from the public but also from the other participating breed societies. It was a superb advertisement for the Welsh breeds. Full credit must go to Andre Mesure for devoting so much time to the production and to all the young people who took part.
