THE WELSH PONY AND COB SOCIETY MINUTES OF THE COUNCIL MEETING HELD AT CONFERENCE ROOM 1, PENTRE JANE MORGAN, ABERYSTWYTH AT 11.00 a.m ON MONDAY 18TH FEBRUARY 2008. Present Miss. S. Hardy (Chairman); Mr. D.Ll. Williams (Vice Chairman); Mr L. Bigley (President Elect); Dr. E.W. Davies (Publicity Officer); Mrs W.A. Bond; Mr M.T. Daley; Mrs E.E. Dart; Mr E.T.E. Davies; Mrs M.C. Edwards; Lady Evans-Bevan; Mrs C. Fell; Mr S.F. Franklin; Mrs D. Jones; Mr G. Jones; Mrs P. Howells; Miss L.M. Hutchins; Mr D.D. Morgan; Mr J.P. Parry; Mrs J.P. Price; Mr E.G. Prosser; Mr J. Russell; Miss J. Sheil; Mr J.K. Spenser; Mr C. Thomas; Mrs D.M. Thomas. Apologies Apologies for inability to attend the meeting were received from Mrs E. French; Mr J. Kirk; Mrs E. Mansfield and Mr R. Manchip. In Attendance Mrs G. Fazey-Koven (Chief Officer & Secretary); Miss H. Tandy (Assistant to the Chief Officer) New Premises (confidential item) Following discussion and a site visit it was agreed on the proposal of Mr E.T.E. Davies and seconded by Miss J. Sheil with 22 in favour, no one against and 1 abstention to make an offer subject to satisfactory reports and charity commission on the building. Mr M.T. Daley noted that he had abstained on principal of word offer, on reflection he then withdrew. Lady Evans-Bevan wished to thank Mr. Williams and Mr. Prosser for all their hard work. ANY OTHER BUSINESS (i) Letter received from Glanusk Show Lady Evans-Bevan, Mrs D. Thomas, Mrs P. Howells and Mr D. Morgan all declared a conflict of interest and absented themselves from the meeting. Mr E.T.E. Davies noted that he had been contacted by Mr J. Kirk with regard to this matter. The Chairman of Council confirmed that it is only the Royal Welsh Show that have gold medals. Dr. E.W Davies noted that this was not their 50th anniversary as in 1958 they had horse trials it was not to do with welsh ponies, Miss J. Sheil stated that regardless of it being their 50th anniversary the gold medal should only be awarded at the Royal Welsh Show, Glanusk is not accessible to the whole Country and does not warrant a gold medal. Mr E. Prosser commented that even the the Welsh Pony & Cob Society centenary show did not have a gold medal. Mrs C. Fell suggested that maybe a special rosette be offered. Mr E.T.E. Davies stated that any show that has been Welch Classes only the Society should start to recognise them, the Royal Welsh Show is not the be all and end all of the Society. The Chairman asked how old the Lampeter Show was, Dr E.W. Davies noted that the catalogues go back to 1953, the Glanusk Show went back to 1962. Mrs M.C. Edwards proposed that they did not receive a gold medal, Mr C. Thomas noted that they have officially announced this as their 50th anniversary show. The Chairman noted that if the Council agree to award Glanusk with a gold medal other shows may follow and apply. Mrs M.C Edwards proposed and Mr M.T. Daley seconded not to award Glanusk Show with a gold medal. Mr E.T.E. Davies proposed and Mrs C. Fell seconded the amendment that if any show has been running for 50 years with Welsh Only Classes they are welcome to apply for the gold medal. Mr E. Prosser proposed and Mr J. Parry seconded the amendment that a gold rosette be created and awarded for all welsh breed shows reaching 50 years. With 9 in favour, 4 against and 3 abstentions it was agreed a gold rosette would be created. On voting for Mr E.T.E Davies’ amendment with 7 in favour, 12 against and no abstentions the amendment was not carried. On voting for Mrs M.C. Edwards’ proposal with 11 in favour, 1 against and 7 abstentions it was agreed not to award Glanusk Show with a gold medal. (ii) Complaint (confidential matter) (iii) Judges Seminar Mrs D. Jones suggested that the date of the seminar should sometimes be changed in order to accommodate people. Mr J. Russell suggested holding the seminar the day before or day after the AGM, the Chairman noted that there would need to be animals there. Mr E.T.E. Davies stated that members should have a valid reason for not attending. Mr J.K. Spenser stated that a seminar should be held in Wales in the future. The Chief Officer confirmed that any member not able to attend the seminar should explain their reasons in writing to the Office, all correspondence will be presented to the Judging and Showing committee at their next meeting. There being no further business the Chairman closed the meeting at 2.45 p.m
